Letters From Iwo Jima

This movie is about WWII happened at Iwo Jima, an island that Japan have to protect their enemies to attack.

Sixty-one years ago, U.S. and Japanese armies met on Iwo Jima. Decades later, several hundred letters are unearthed from that stark island’s soils. The letters give faces and voices to the men who fought there, as well as the extraordinary general who led them, Tadamichi Kuribayashi (Ken Watanabe). With little defense other than sheer will and the volcanic rock of the island itself, Gen. Kuribayashi’s unprecedented tactics transform what was predicted to be a quick and bloody defeat into nearly 40 days of heroic and resourceful combat.
Directed by Clint Eastwood

My rating: ***

I feel........ I don't remember they mentioned why do they need to protect this island so much, until my friend told me the enemy will use this island as a base to attack Japan main island. I guess the story line is not good enough (although nominated for Best Original Screenplay) or rather it did not bring out the real history of this history. I assume this is an non-fiction story, at least the WWII is. But overall, this movie do have the touching parts. Like when one of the generals saved one American soldier, like when those soldiers wrote letter home but was unsend (there is where they found the letters) etc.

But of course there are some screen which I hated most, the violence.

Peace is such important and precious thing, I pray for that every moment. Hope there will never have another WW again.
