Just Follow Law

At first we wanted to watch ‘Protégé’ but ended up ‘Just Follow Law’ comedy movie, just hope to get a good laugh after a long tired day.

The film takes a satirical look at the inflexibility of outdated governmental rules and regulations and the rigid mindsets of civil servants who follow rules to a fault, charming and delighting audiences with its humorous and perceptive insights.

My rating: ***

I feel…… Similarly. Because of the office politics, like the one that I mentioned not long ago. Having writing only emails but no communication at all, arrows shooting here and there, and at the end the lower level get to do the entire job. Hypocrite colleagues around you (luckily I have good ones too), no budget for you but always has budget for something the big boss wanted to do. Salary will never be able to catch up with the economics that government claimed is good etc.

The most insulting is when they are writing the emails, seeing the arrows going around the office make us think alike of our own situations.

The funniest part is when four main roles up to the stage to do a last minute performance, ha ha ha simple but I love it.

The touching part is when Tanya Chew (played by Fann Wong) saw how much her mother cares for her, which she did the opposite to her mum. One thing she (he) said: ‘When I am myself, I didn’t see much of me. But when I am you, then I see the true me’. Indeed, most of the time we are in this situation.

Guess it’s time to reflect my true self……… maybe not in another body, but in front of a mirror which tell no lies in this case. Hope my ending like the movie, happily ever after.

CNY = Fighting Against Virus

One thing that commonly happens each year during CNY, other than the traditional foods and culture, is the 'Germs Spreading'. SmileyCentral.com

Coughing can be heard here and there. My work place, the public places and even my house. Too much of heaty food stuff and change of the weather are the main reason of the sickness, I guess. I had been drinking a lot of water (more than I usually did) just to prevent myself from fallen sick as I can feel my body is fighting against the virus now.

So my friend, do take care of your health. Drink more water and eat more fruits and vegetable (especially during CNY) SmileyCentral.com

Chingay 2007

At the end, I didn’t go down to Orchard to watch Chingay which I thought I very much wanted to go. Watching LIVE from TV while playing mahjong (which playing M.J is only a yearly issue to me). Of course, I ended up seeing nothing cos my back is facing the TV.

And four of us had little conversation over this Chingay.

My sis: ‘Aiyo, why goes there since you can watch from the TV? See, so crowded and it is so hot.’

Her friend: ‘Well you can enjoy the whole atmosphere and have fun with all the people there.’

Me: ‘Right, you can enjoy this kind of harmony together with your country. Moreover, there will be party after the Chingay, hmmmm, it will be real fun. I remembered I went to the first Singapore Street Party when I was young. We enjoyed a lot of fun.'

When the little firework began…………..

My sis: ‘Wow, they even have this, must costs a lot’.

Her friend: ‘I wonder how much they need to spend…..?’

My sis: ‘Why they have this twice a year, CNY and National day, waste of money’

Me: ‘In order to celebrate, you will have to spend $$$ for sure, but most importantly is we still can enjoy this kind of ‘celebration’ now. Sis, you remember you use to bring us to watch this Chingay when we were young (P.S my sis is much elderly than me, so I am almost the same generation with her children. She treats me more like her kid than younger sis). So we should feel proud that we still can have this Chingay for so many years.’

My friend just shakes his head. Meaning he will never wants to go such crowded place.

Me: ‘If I have kakis to go there, I will join them for sure.’

Well, perhaps so. We can’t have the 100% people be there to watch the Chingay. And we do able to enjoy watching from TV too.

Singapore River Hong Bao 2007

Went to Singapore River Hong Bao after the movie to feel the peace and happy Chinese New Year atmosphere. Frankly speaking, nothing much special for me to continue walking under this hot weather, so I give up after a short walk there and headed to the nearest air-con shopping center.

Letters From Iwo Jima

This movie is about WWII happened at Iwo Jima, an island that Japan have to protect their enemies to attack.

Sixty-one years ago, U.S. and Japanese armies met on Iwo Jima. Decades later, several hundred letters are unearthed from that stark island’s soils. The letters give faces and voices to the men who fought there, as well as the extraordinary general who led them, Tadamichi Kuribayashi (Ken Watanabe). With little defense other than sheer will and the volcanic rock of the island itself, Gen. Kuribayashi’s unprecedented tactics transform what was predicted to be a quick and bloody defeat into nearly 40 days of heroic and resourceful combat.
Directed by Clint Eastwood

My rating: ***

I feel........ I don't remember they mentioned why do they need to protect this island so much, until my friend told me the enemy will use this island as a base to attack Japan main island. I guess the story line is not good enough (although nominated for Best Original Screenplay) or rather it did not bring out the real history of this history. I assume this is an non-fiction story, at least the WWII is. But overall, this movie do have the touching parts. Like when one of the generals saved one American soldier, like when those soldiers wrote letter home but was unsend (there is where they found the letters) etc.

But of course there are some screen which I hated most, the violence.

Peace is such important and precious thing, I pray for that every moment. Hope there will never have another WW again.

CNY - Gong Xi Gong Xi

HAPPY LUNAR NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE!
On our normal routine, we will go to my elder sister's house for visiting, then to my aunties place. Nothing else to do so we have another mahjong game (again) within ourselves... same thing on second day. That's our day in CNY.

Dinner on CNY Eve

No steamboat for this year, just a simple meal (but enough to keep my sister busy preparing) - split ino vegetarian and non-vege. It is really a simple one.....but importantly, we all had great time as we seldom have meal together.

We even had a round of mahjong game after dinner.

It's All About Communication

Last day of working before our CNY, a small group of us from the same section had a short unofficial meeting. Nothing serious happened, just wishing each other all the best in the coming new year and a gentle reminder of the importance of communication.

Since the born of the email arrived, it has been giving us much more convenience in work life but at the same time “WAR” too. Don’t you agree? A lot of us mis-used the benefit of the email – a click away to send your mail (sometime can be a very long and sarcastic one) to whoever you want, even bcc, when most of the time a short communicate can be resolve. These situation happens to everyone almost every day, despite you are the one who do so or you are the victim. And when this happened to us, we began to wonder why…….here are some of the reasons I can think of.

a) Well, I am too lazy to walk over to the other party.
b) He/She is an idiot; I hate to see his/her face, less say to talk to him/her.
c) Why should I go over to his/her place, such a nobody to me.
d) I want to make sure my boss knows that I am working, real hard.
e) Well, someone out there should know I am knowledgeable.
f) I want him/her to be in deep shit.

Well, I believe there are thousand more reasons for a person to do proposely or unintensively. 'Devil' will want the situation to get worst, while 'Angle' will help to softer it. Luckily I met the 2nd one to make our life more beautiful today (Hope I have my guidence to guide me always). Nevertheless, I always believe communication is still important in today's world, even we speak lesser each day now.

Love For Share

A movie of 3 short stories of the Indonesia women on how they choose their own destiny for their love.

A frank and honest discussion on polygamy in modern Indonesia, the largest Muslim country in the world. Three women from three different social classes and ethnic backgrounds, conveying their passages in dealing with polygamy: sharing a husband's love and attention with several other women, their troubles and internal conflicts. In their course of finding the answers to their problems, sometimes they meet with each other without even realizing that they share a similar story.

Only shown at GV Vivo City.
My Rating: ***1/2
I feel.......... the storyline is so reality that I can feel 'real'. Although they speak in Bahasa Indonesia language, but the subtitle is simple enough for us to laugh at certain parts. I think life is what we can do before we could really choose our own destiny. If we can't do much, we might have to let the destiny lead our road.
So I am thinking, am I leading my own destiny or letting my destiny to lead me????

Chingay 2007 – Parade Of Dream

The spring is coming and it’s time to celebrate our Lunar New Year and each year Singapore has the Chingay event to celebrate CNY.

Went to Orchard Road and saw this advertisement and the gallery seats, it reminded me that it has been long long time ago that I last watch Chingay live.
The event will be held on 24 Feb 2007 (Sat) and parade starts from Shaw House to Orchard Plaza. I believe the S$45 gallery seat must have been sold out by now. Anyway I am not keen enough to buy the ticket to watch Chingay but……. maybe I might consider to go Orchard Road to watch it live. They even have the Hi-fun After Parade Party , 1st time happen in Chingay this year. Join in the fun if you love party.

Our 1st Commercial CNY Dinner

Our 1st CNY Dinner with the whole commercial department, turned out 170 people attended (as usual they are people who can’t make it). Never did I expect the whole department is so ‘big’.

1st time event will always have a lot to improve but the committee has done a great job in total, with so little budget to spend. This is an outdoor event (near the swimming pool of Temasek Club) and the members had to spend the whole afternoon to do the deco. Poor them, it is not easy to do things under the sun and I always salute those people who do so. Heard that the buffet was not so good but my special vegetarian food (specially served to me cos I am the only vegetarian on that night, paiseh paiseh) was great. Thank you so much to them for the arrangement.

The games were fun too; at least it made the whole dept LOL.

Dinner ended around 10pm. I am dead tired when we still need to work the next morning…….. I miss 5 working days.

Barbara is in Singapore

Ladies and Gentlemen, here come my friendiest Brazilian friend, just touch down the night before her birthday.

I remembered that the last time Barbara mentioned to me about coming to Singapore for vacation, that was almost two months ago ad now she is finally in town (Time flies). Her friend specially arranged a party gathering at Kazbar on her next arrival day. Four of us, who worked in Brazil before, went to her birthday party. It is always good to have friend from overseas to visit my homeland.

Looking at her sweet happy face , I can tell that she is having great fun.

Before the party, Steven, Jimmy, Abdul and I went to this Moti Mahal Restuarant at Murray Street for dinner. They had been in business for 30 years and served very nice Northern Indian Cuisine. Try it if you like Indian food!

Morton’s of Chicago

Went to this steak house with my kakis yesterday for a wonderful dinner. Before the dinner, we went to their bar house to have a drink. As usual, I only drink non-alcohol drink, despite my kakis keep promoting how good the taste of the Martini is. First, they tried the Lai-Chee favor, then the Green apple and the Chocolate. Seems like the sinful Chocolate does not suit their taste. Majority prefer the green apple but the best is their on house ‘Beef Bread’.

With this group of kakis around, laughter is always there and yes, I enjoyed a lot with all their funny and sometime ‘dirty’ jokes. At least we can laugh away the stress we had during the day. That’s why I love to join this (monthly) gathering with them, as we have so much in common to joke about. After all, we can’t take all things too seriously and a little laughter is good for us.

I realized recently I am not able to stay up too late. Once the clock reach 8 plus, my eye will automatic feel so sleepy and restless. Maybe because of the heavy dinner (wow, had been eating a lot since home), maybe I have to wake up 5am the next morning or maybe age is catching up (yeeeeeee OMG). I think the most reason is lacking of exercise. Lazy me, what can I say?

Hmmm, looking at the rest of this week’s schedule, I am petty busy with gathering. Hope I still can ‘tahan’ and perhaps get rid of my tiredness. Hee hee.

More Improvement????

Photo courtesy of Land Transport Authority

I went to Bishan this evening to meet my old friend and saw construction going on around the MRT station. Then I realized that I had completely forgotten about this CCL (Circle Line) project still going on, which expected to complete by Year 2010. I had almost forgotten about the accident of Nicoll Highway Collapse happened on April 2004. I almost forget that we are changing every minute at the changing environment, no matter where we are.

Looking at the map, I believe our lifestyle will be different again (at least on our transportation) in another 3 years time. Hope we can still coping well with the surrounding changes.

Scrapbooking For Your Photo

My colleague, Julie introduced this Scrapbooking idea when we were talking about how we should display our developed photos nicely. Found it Interesting and curious (Hmmm, have I been out of this world for long time????) I drop by this shop called MADE WITH LOVE at Plaza Singapura last evening to have a better picture (too bad we can’t take photo in any shop here).

Immediately, I fall in love with all those tiny little accessories and papers (raw material) to do the scrapbook. They have variety choices from US and of course, they are not cheap too. Loving them is one thing; it really needs time and effort to do your own scrapbook, that’s why it’s called Made with Love. You may sign up their course if you are at lost to begin (like me).

Too bad I have no time to do this little favorite thing now.

Another Weekend.......

Been home for 2 weeks and realised Singapore lifestyle can be fulfilling but sometimes boring too. Having to work 5-1/2 days weekly, weekend becomes a blink of eye. There are so many things that I wish to do but somehow, I am so tire after working and wish to do nothing but rest at home. (As I need to wake up 5am in the morning to catch the company bus at 6am. Knock off at 4.30pm without O.T and reach home only around 6plus). I guess I still need some more (than I expected) time to settle down before rushing to do things that I wish to do…… However, I still like to go out during weekend. Since CNY is round the corner, I went to get myself new RED dresses and shoes. Had my most favorite Chicago Cheesecake at Coffee Bean and dinner at the newly renovated (which I don’t know how long ago) food court at Wisma Astra. Just another Sat but enjoyable when I can feel the prosperity, which this is the most important one.
Hmmm I have not been taking any photo since back so.....just one simple one hee hee.

How Much Have You Been Doing?

In Singapore, it seems that we did not put much effort to help on our environment. Although we do see Re-cycle bins here and there, but you can see it is not being fully utilize or worst, being mis-used.

Sad but I can’t do much about this. All I can do is to begin from myself to help to save the environment. I am not doing good enough so I will need to remind myself now and then, and hopefully my friends can do so. The strength of a group of people is definitely stronger than one person.

This is the list of things I will TAKE ACTION with immediate effect and hope I can do it best.
1) Use Recycled Paper / Reduce Paper Using
2) Take Shorter Shower – Or no shower perhaps, ha ha.
3) Carpool - That’s why I still prefer to take public transport
4) Reduce Garbage – I think I had been wasting too much recently
5) Bring Cloth Bag to the Market – I need to buy one and start practicing

With these, I believe I can do more after practicing them in my daily life. You too!

I am thinking of getting this model mobile phone. Any suggestion????
